Staff Accountant at Residential Real Estate Firm

We are currently interviewing candidates for a Staff Accountant position with our client, a third generation privately-held residential property management firm.

This position applies accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare reports, in addition to the following abbreviated list showing core duties (other duties may be assigned).

About the Job:

  • Update and oversee deposits, journal entries and payables
  • Manage records and documents (leases, rent increases, changes in terms)
  • Reconcile Accounts Receivable Report
  • Generate “balance due” correspondence
  • Use Yardi as primary software
  • Prepare water, sewer and trash billing
  • Distribute water, sewer and trash invoices to tenants
  • Assist property staff with rent input
  • Audit rents paid and align with deposits
  • Audit banking activity, resident ledgers and rent collections daily
  • Audit resident move-in packages for completed steps, accuracy and documents
  • Submit information to legal team for 3 day notices
  • Process returned payments
  • Update resident accounts
  • Audit ledgers or proper billing setup
  • Prepare non tenant receipts for corporate collections
  • Process holding deposits
  • Prepare and schedule capital improvement letters
  • Setup resident charges
  • Communicate day to day progress with management team
  • Liaise between Resident Managers, Accounts Payable, and Vendors
  • Maintain a successful system of checks and balances
  • Act as software support when needed (Yardi)
  • Prepare aging reports monthly
  • Compile and analyze financial information
  • Prepare entries to general ledger accounts and document transactions
  • Monitor day to day operations of properties

About the Candidate:

  • BA degree in Accounting, Business Administration or similar (MUST)
  • 2+ years’ experience in an accounting, financial, A/P or A/R position (MUST)
  • Yardi software (PLUS)
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (MUST)
  • Candidate characteristics and skills: Organization, independent worker, excellent math, written and verbal communication skills, multi-tasker, excellent attention to detail, team player, professional and positive attitude, willingness to learn
